HOW WE MET
Amy and I met through a mutual friend at the church we attended. This friend texted both of us asking if she could introduce us because, "there is something about her that reminds me of something in you, and I think you'd really get along." She wasn't wrong. After the initial introduction, I didn't quite know how to get myself back in front of her; we seemed to keep missing each other. But Facebook chats turned into text messages, and about a month later, we had our first date at the corn maze. 2020 proved to be quite an interesting year, but if anything it brought us closer together, faster. We spent so much time isolating together, and when we didn't have others we could live life with, we still had each other. It was a hard year in so many ways, but our relationship also blossomed and flourished through it. The year and a half we've been together, has gotten better and better. I've never met someone whose heart is carved to fit mine like hers is. She understands me, knows me, and loves me deeper than anyone I've ever met, and so after a little over a year of dating, I asked her to marry me. It was the easiest decision, and I've never been more sure of anything than I am that I want to spend the rest of my life with my best friend, and my favourite person.
THE PROPOSAL
The engagement took place at the top of Sulphur Mountain in Banff, Alberta, Canada. After a memorable weekend at the Fairmont Banff Spring Hotel, we finished up with a gondola ride up to the top of Sulphur Mountain to watch the sunset over the mountain range. I had been carrying the ring in my pocket all day in anticipation of asking her when we were at the top of the mountain. It was so windy at the top, and quite chilly too. But so, so beautiful. As we walked along the top of the mountain, I was looking for the perfect place to get down on one knee and ask Amy to marry me. And then I saw it. It was the perfect spot. With the snow-covered trees, and the sun setting behind the mountain, it was a breathtaking backdrop for this moment. With that amazing background, I pretended I was going to take a picture of her. I had my camera out and acted ready to take the shot before putting the camera into my pocket, pulling out the ring instead, getting on one knee, and asking her to marry me. She was surprised, speechless, shocked, but after composing herself said YES! It was an amazing moment we got to share without anyone else around, at (what felt like) the top of the world. After a quick photoshoot on my phone, we took the gondola back down the mountain and began to share the news with our close friends and family.
